The Baby Jeff

The Baby Jeff

Jeff Kaiser, a sophomore at Yale University, is an ardent supporter of ECHOES and its work in Uganda. As a high school student, he helped raise funds to purchase an ambulance (albeit second-hand) for the Double Cure Mobile Clinic which serves people in outlying areas of Uganda who would ordinarily not have access to routine medical care and education. He recently sent us this photo and story.

A few month's after returning from my first trip to Uganda I received an e-mail from Roman’s [Serunjogi] titled “The BABY JEFF.” I had no idea what this meant, but soon read that a second baby had been born at Double Cure, and, on the suggestion of Betty the nurse, the couple had named their son Jeff. The following summer I returned to Uganda and had the chance to meet baby Jeff and his parents one day while working at Double Cure. Looking back, it was an incredible coming together of the three religions of Abraham – the child of a Muslim family born in a Christian hospital named after a young Jewish man. Clearly there are some things in life that transcend boundaries.
