Call to Care 2009: The Girls’ Dorm
July 2011 update - The Girls' Dorm is open!
The girls' dormitory was ready for inspection and the official inauguration by ECHOES's Advisory Board Member Jeff Kaiser when he visited the school in June and again in August, 2011. In addition to building a new dorm, the project provided paving for the school compound between the dorm and the office block. The new flat stones are a big improvement over the dirt pathways. Our pictures capture the official opening ceremony with Jeff Kaiser and our local leader, Romans Serunjogi, surrounded by Centenary students.
August 2010 update to the Girls' Dorm
We have great progress to report on the construction of the Girl's Dorm! The third floor has been built out and the roof is on at the Girls’ Dorm at Centenary High School. This project is thanks to the fruit of the Call to Care Luncheon in June 2009. The Girls' Dorm is in the town of Nyendo which is a suburb of Masaka in Uganda. The three story dorm next to it is the boy's dorm which was painted just after these pictures were taken. Because there are now so many girls at the school, the girls are currently using the boy's dorm and the boys are in the bottom floor of the girl's dorm in addition to being pushed into closets and other places. Many thanks go out to all who sponsored this critical need project at Centenary High School.
Below is an excerpt from a letter from Romans to the ECHOES Board in 2009. To the right are pictures of the construction of the ground floor of the dormitory.
Dear ECHOES Board,
At long last I have the joy to announce that the construction of the foundation and the ground floor of the girls’ dormitory is finished. We are now just giving it a period of at least one month for the concrete to dry up and then shift back some of the girls to where they used to belong.
Thank you for your support and prayers. As you know always the foundation takes a lot of money and you have to do it with care and patience so I thank you for your patience and generosity.
