Serunjogi family
Trinity Children’s Centre is the dream of one couple, David Serunjogi and his wife Sarah. A self-made Ugandan success story, David Serunjogi also known as Romans, epitomizes a true entrepreneurial survivor with his vision. With the help of his teacher wife Sarah, they formed a school that 20 years ago started with six students, neighborhood children whose families could pay a small fee. Today, enrollment for Trinity Children’s Centre and Centenary High School exceeds 1700 and continues to grow. One-fourth of these students are AIDS orphans. Dreams of funding a self-supporting operation while helping the community at large forced Romans to think outside the box.
The results of his faith and vision, coupled with financial support of many donors, have produced a remarkable increase in enrollment, new dormitories and classrooms, the development of a maize mill, main halls that function as national testing sites and a lucrative sports viewing theatre, a marching band, and the new construction of a medical clinic. ECHOES Around the World supports these educational and entrepreneurial efforts through its increasing donor network, fundraising and grant applications.

Combating government bureaucracy, poverty, low school fees and increasing children orphaned by AIDS, the Serunjogis have created a success story that merits praise and admiration. The development of entrepreneurial endeavors that raise funds used to maintain and grow two burgeoning schools are numerous. With the help of ECHOES Around the World and its increasing donor network, the frequent visits which bring professionals from the U.S. to collaborate on Ugandan- generated projects, and a communication built on respect, friendship and accountability, Romans and Sarah Serunjogi have been able to turn their dreams of creating a strong Uganda through the education of its children into reality.
Stepping Stones to Self-Sufficiency
The vision of Sarah and Romans Serunjogi continues to look to the future. They work diligently and creatively to improve the self-sufficiency of both schools. The beauty of these programs is their simplicity and their multi-functionality.
Looking after his buddy
- The Main Halls at each school not only serve educational purposes, e.g.,both are designated National Examination sites, but also generate rental income for the schools as well as provide services to the community. They are rented for weddings and other community celebrations. They show world soccer games and films both to the community at large (for a fee) and to the students for recreation.
- The Marching Band is not only a valued school activity but also generates income from performances at weddings and other functions.
- The Maize Mill not only produces maize flour for school lunches, but also earns income by grinding maize and rice for local people. It provides income for the workers and their families.
- The Double Cure Medical Centre, a professionally staffed clinic, small hospital and mobile clinic are under construction. The vision is to help both the school communities and the local community with education on health issues as well as maintaining a much needed medical facility in the area.
It is the ultimate intention of the Romans 8:1 Ministries to attain self sufficiency and sustainability of both schools.
