Sewing Project

Sewing Machine Project is launched thanks to Friends and Fall Fundraiser!

In September ’07, generous friends of ECHOES met for an evening of good food and fun in hopes of raising $18,000 to purchase treadle sewing machines for both Trinity Children’s Centre and Centenary High School.  Our goal was well exceeded!  Nereida Gordon, chair of the ECHOES Board, went to Uganda in October and assisted Sarah Serunjogi in purchasing new machines, cloth and notions.  The photos show when the machines arrived all hands were there to help and then the job of putting them together began. The students are now learning a valuable life skill and in addition the schools have a money generating program. They now make all their school uniforms on site and have been approached by other schools for their tailoring services. One member of a community helping another member.
